Open a Swissquote Account: Registration Walkthrough

Step-by-step guide to opening a Swissquote account in the UAE. Learn about the DFSA licence, KYC documents required, verification timelines, and what to expect during registration.

Risk

Margin trading amplifies both outcomes, and losses can build up within a single session.

Open a Swissquote Account: Registration Walkthrough

Opening an account with Swissquote involves a banking-grade process. You are opening an account with a Swiss bank, not just a trading platform. Here is what you need to know before starting registration.

The Sign-Up Process

The account opening flow at Swissquote is fully digital but built around Swiss banking compliance. You will need to provide personal details, declare your tax residency, and upload verification documents. The process takes about 10-15 minutes if you have your documents ready.

The application then goes through a review stage, where Swissquote checks your documentation against their compliance requirements. For clients in the UAE, the review typically takes one to three business days.

Required Documents for UAE Residents

KYC requirements follow the standard Emirates ID or passport route, plus proof of address.

DocumentAccepted FormsNotes
Proof of IdentityEmirates ID (for residents), Passport (for non-residents)Must be valid and clearly scanned
Proof of AddressUAE utility bill, bank statement, tenancy contractMust be dated within the last 3 months
Source of Funds (if requested)Salary certificate, bank statements, investment portfolioRequired for larger deposits or specific jurisdictions
Scan your documents in colour and make sure all four corners are visible. Poor-quality scans are the most common reason for verification delays.

Account Funding

The minimum deposit for a Standard forex account is USD 1,000. Deposits go through international bank wires or card payments; there are no dedicated local UAE rails.

The DFSA Licence and Your Retail Status

Swissquote operates in the UAE through Swissquote MEA Ltd (SQMEA), licensed by the DFSA in the DIFC. Under the DFSA Rulebook, SQMEA does not offer CFDs or rolling-spot FX to retail clients-these are restricted speculative investments.

Your retail trading account is therefore booked through the Swiss parent entity, Swissquote Bank Ltd, regulated by FINMA as a Swiss bank. Your local DFSA licence covers the DIFC office operations, but your trading relationship sits with the Swiss bank.

Account Types and Fees

Swissquote offers three account tiers: Standard (USD 1,000 minimum), Premium (USD 10,000), and Prime (USD 50,000). A dedicated expat account is also available.

Costs are bank-grade: spread-based FX plus platform and custody fees. Exact pricing was not verified at review. Swissquote is more expensive than typical pure-play brokers in the UAE.

Trading platforms and login access

Swissquote provides Advanced Trader (proprietary), MT4, and MT5. All three come with a single login.

The broker offers FX, CFDs, stocks, ETFs, crypto, bonds, and futures. Settlement currencies include USD, EUR, CHF, and GBP; AED base was not verified at review.

Swap-free accounts are available on request via support.

Tax and Trading Profits

The UAE has no personal income tax and no capital gains tax on individual trading profits from forex, stocks, or crypto. The Federal Tax Authority (FTA) administers corporate tax at 9% for business profits above AED 375,000, but this applies to business entities, not individual traders.

Individual retail traders have no personal-income filing duty.

Who Should Open an Account

Recommended for:Experienced traders with larger account sizes who value Swiss banking regulation and are comfortable with higher fees. The swap-free Islamic account makes it viable for traders following Sharia principles.

Not recommended for:Beginners or traders depositing small amounts frequently. The USD 1,000 minimum and bank-grade fees will erode a small account. A cost-efficient international broker under strong regulation (FCA, CySEC, ASIC) may be a better fit.
